Alex,

I hope you find a place in your music luggage

to stuff this one into. You have an amazing voice, so let me hear it

a bit better, a bit clearer… no matter where I stand.

Your truest fan.

I stare at the words on the paper, my mind racing a hundred miles per hour. I know this handwriting. I know it, how could I not when it belongs to her. And even if I didn't know, she wrote the note with a pink pen. Only a fool wouldn't figure it out. What I don't understand is what she meant when she wrote 'your truest fan'. She's never been to any of my shows.

Stuffing the tiny note in my pocket, I flush the toilet. I wash my face, completely drenching my short beard in water, that it still drips down onto my shirt once I step out of the bathroom.

Steph is crazily running around the space, collecting discarded wrapping paper, the boys are moving all the furniture around, making the center of the living room looking almost like a dance floor. Maria is rolling the carpet, leaving the hardwood floors naked and shining, but Maxine is nowhere to be found.

I walk around the mess they are making and head into the kitchen, only to see her standing at the window, looking at the snow outside just like I was yesterday.

"Thank you." I say, standing closely behind her, her blonde hair brushing against my chest.

"What for?"

"For the mic, Lisichka."

"Stop calling me that." she huffs.

"Never." I smile behind her. "Thank you, that's my dream mic."

"Why are you thanking me? I didn't get it for you."

"I know your handwriting, Maxine. And leaving a note in a sparkly, pink pen doesn't really sound like Daniel."

She laughs softly at my words, her slender shoulders shaking. I step a tiny bit closer, and her back leans into my front. For just a second there, I imagine we could stop pretending and I could claim her as mine.

"I got it at the local music store BLASTERS… It's not a big deal. I still hate you, Alexander."

"Ya tebya obozhayu." I whisper into her hair before leaving her alone to peacefully look at the blizzard outside.

Not long after, she follows me into the shared space, which is almost unrecognizable. There are way too many decorations all over, and way too many colors, even for my liking. Maxine's whole face scrunches in disgust as she looks around.

"If you've ever wondered what a unicorn shart looks like, this is it! I really hate Christmas…" she says, filming the room with her phone.

"Uhm, guys? What's going on? Where did all the stuff go, and why is everything so festive?" I ask, waving my hand around.

"Ohhhh! I didn't tell you?" Steph gapes at Maxine and me. "We are having a party!
